Description:
The Medical Emergency Recognition Course covers the identification and prevention of potential medical emergencies and includes the following:
- Medical History;
- Recognition of common medical emergency situations;
- Office emergency protocols;
- Basic airway management;
- Prevention of emergency situations during dental appointments; and
- Recognition of symptoms, first aid treatment and
possible outcomes for patients who exhibit bleeding injuries, cardiovascular disease, insulin reaction, diabetic coma, shock, syncope, epileptic seizures, and allergic reactions.
The course is four hours in length and fulfills the Ohio State Dental Board’s requirement of Dental Hygienists, Expanded Function Dental Auxiliaries, and Certified Dental Assistants practicing under general supervision, as well as the Kentucky Board of Dentistry’s requirements for Dental Hygienists practicing in the State of Kentucky.
