“From Innocuous to Insidious: When to Worry About Oral Lesions” by Dr. Andres Flores

Attendees will learn how to:

  1. Critically evaluate the clinical and histopathological features of common red and white oral mucosal lesions to differentiate benign, potentially malignant, and malignant entities.
  2. Apply evidence-based diagnostic strategies to guide timely referral, biopsy, and management decisions in patients presenting with ambiguous red and white oral lesions.

About Andres D. Flores, MS, DDS

Dr. Flores earned his MS and Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he holds appointments in the Departments of Surgery and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

About Petra S. Olivieri, DMD, MDDr. Olivieri was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.  She completed her undergraduate education at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. She then completed her Dental, Medical and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at CWRU in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated in 2021. Dr. Olivieri spent several years working at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and began working at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in 2024.

“Conditions that Mimic TMJ” by Dr. Gary Robins

Dr. Robins will describe pain conditions that could be mistaken for TMJ, which some that could be life threatening, and differential diagnosis, as well as acute versus chronic pain. He will provide examples of some cases during his lecture.

The main objectives are to ensure the dentist will come away with a better understanding on when to treat these patients or refer them, how to take a pain history and the process involved in Diagnosis and Examination.

About Gary S. Robins, DMD

Gary S. Robins, DMDDr. Robins started out with a pharmacy degree and nursed dreams of being a pharmacologist before attending dental school at the University of Pittsburgh. While practicing general dentistry, he developed a keen interest in orofacial pain and TMD. In 1989, he sold his practice to specialize in the area. He has been treating patients with these conditions, at UC, for the last 39 years. He’s boarded in orofacial pain, TMD and dental sleep medicine.

“Implant Dentistry Demystified: Building Confidence in Managing Complex and Unexpected Cases” by Dr. Mi Young Kim and Dr. Supritha Nilam

This lecture provides practical, real-world strategies for navigating complex and unforeseen challenges in implant dentistry. Attendees will explore advanced clinical techniques, decision-making frameworks, and case-based examples that highlight how to adapt when treatment does not go as planned. Emphasis will be placed on anatomical limitations, prosthetic complications, and patient-centered care. The goal is to build clinical confidence and improve outcomes in even the most demanding situations.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify and manage key risk factors in complex implant cases, including anatomical and prosthetic challenges.
  1. Apply clinical strategies to address unexpected intraoperative or postoperative complications.
  2. Improve treatment planning and communication to enhance patient outcomes and team coordination. 

About Mi Young Kim, DMD

Mi Young Kim, DMDDr. Kim is a maxillofacial prosthodontist with specialized expertise in complex prosthetic rehabilitation, including intraoral and facial prosthetics for post-cancer care. She has advanced training in both prosthodontics and maxillofacial prosthodontics, which means she works with everything from dentures and dental implants to complex facial prosthetics like eyes, noses, and ears. She currently serves as a faculty in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Cincinnati, where she actively participates in interdisciplinary care for patients requiring maxillofacial prostheses.

Dr. Kim completed her Advanced Education in Prosthodontics and a subsequent Fellowship in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she also earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine. She previously served as an Assistant Professor at UAB’s School of Dentistry and has clinical experience in both academic and private practice settings.

Dr. Kim’s teaching roles include training general dentistry residents, ENT fellows, oral and maxillofacial surgery residents, and dental hygiene students. She lectures on topics such as digital workflows, facial prosthetics, and implant-supported rehabilitation. She is a board-certified dental laboratory technologist and an active member of the American College of Prosthodontists and the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics.

About Supritha Nilam, DDS, MD

Supritha Nilam, DDS, MDDr. Nilam was born in Bermuda but grew up in Canada and considers herself a proud Canuck. She completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Ontario in 2013. She then earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from New York University College of Dentistry. After her dental training she worked as a Dentist in Maine for one year before moving to Los Angeles for further training. She completed her residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles during which she received her Medical Degree and completed a General Surgical Internship. Supritha has strong interest in orthognathic surgery, benign pathology, craniofacial implants and hard and soft tissue augmentation. Outside of work, she loves to travel, spend time with friends and family, has a green thumb, is a yogi and a foodie!
